Do you mind
if I take a few minutes and tell you my story?
You see, I used to be the managing editor for one of
the leading trade publications for authors, book marketers, publicists,
and assorted industry “bigwigs.”
During my 14 years “on
the inside,” I also personally wrote hundreds (probably
thousands -- I lost count) of ads for authors to help them get
publicity and sell more books.
It was a
pretty fancy-pants gig.
But then about seven years ago I got
started with this whole Internet thing on the side.
It was going
to be a way to earn some extra money to help pay the bills, and to help
provide a little bit of a better life for my then newborn daughter.
So I wrote a
book and started selling it online.
It did okay.
Nothing to write home about. (I still sell a few copies of it here and
there, but to be honest, I’ve really lost interest in it.)
Anyway,
fast-forward a few years...
I really
enjoyed my little offline book-marketing gig, but what I really liked
doing was learning about ONLINE marketing.
So I spent
more and more time figuring that out.
I started
selling other people’s products, and I started to make some decent
money.
Then, two years ago, I
was making enough money just helping other people promote their stuff
online that I said goodbye to my “day job” forever.
