What is The Author’s Edge?
As this blog, our new Facebook Fan Page, our new podcast, The Author’s Edge home-study course, and all the other little projects that are kicking off surrounding this brand start to gain more and more attention, a lot of people have been asking me recently to sum up what The Author’s Edge is all about.
What makes this system different from every other program out there that promises to help you sell a truckload of books?
Well, here’s the first thing…
I don’t care if you sell a single book as a result of what you’ll learn here. In fact, my goal is that you never again think about specific things you can do to sell books.
Now before you jump ship, let me explain…
I chose my words very carefully up above when I said “specific things to sell books.” That word SPECIFIC is very important.
I spent 15 years in the book marketing industry helping authors do the very things that would help them sell more books.
And do you know what I saw, consistently, day in and day out, month in and month out, year in and year out?
That the most successful authors — and by successful I mean the people who not only made the most money, but who also reached the most people — were the ones who used their book as a launching pad for other things.
In other words, they marketed the AUTHOR, not the BOOK.
That’s why this is called The Author’s Edge and not The Book’s Edge.
Because here’s the deal…
Books are the worst way to make a living from what you know.
I’m sorry if that disappoints you, but it’s true.
Now here’s what I know…
I know how to market books. I spent 15 years doing it, but…
I know that I would never again advise anyone to spend time doing it, because…
For the past 3 years I’ve seen how much more profitable and EASY it is to take what you know, package it into a format that allows you to charge a much higher price, and spend your time focusing on those things that let you reach your audience DIRECTLY.
I’m talking about Internet marketing specifically and something called Direct Marketing in a larger sense.
It’s not important if you don’t know the first thing about Internet marketing, can’t tell a blog from a lego block, or even if you don’t have the slightest idea what the term direct marketing even means.
It just doesn’t matter.
Because ANYONE can be shown the simple steps to start turning your knowledge and expertise, the very same things that made it possible to write your book, into something that can deliver a steady, comfortable income for years to come.
It’s the expertise, the talent, that you can’t teach. And you already have that.
The mechanical stuff is easy. The marketing stuff is easy. I can’t teach you how to write, or how to have the discipline and talent required to write a book.
I just can’t.
But what I can show you is how to market that talent and expertise in the most efficient way, so that you help the most people AND, yes, make the most money.
Now, this approach is definitely not for everyone.
I’m a writer and an author myself, so believe me when I was first introduced to this concept years ago, I was confused.
I didn’t start out in Internet marketing, but that’s where I wound up.
I mean when I first started talking with authors who were already doing this, I was excited and I could see that it made sense, but I had no clue where to start.
Now, 8 years after I launched my very first website, this is what I do full time, and it’s what I help other authors just like you do.
Let me give you an example…
Let’s say you’re a dog trainer and you’ve written the world’s best dog training book.
You’re selling it for $15. After printers, publishers, wholesalers, distributors and everyone else takes their cut, you’re probably putting about a buck in your pocket if you’re lucky. Maybe a bit more if you’re self published, but it’s still a fraction of the selling price.
Okay, still with me?
What if instead of that, you simply filmed yourself training dogs — showing people, in video (which is what your customers want ANYWAY by the way), how to teach things like sit, down, stay and other basic commands?
I know for a fact, because I’m involved in this market, that you could package that as a digital course and sell it through a website for between $50 and $150, depending on the options you offer to your customers.
And nearly all of that is profit.
Even doing just a halfway decent job at marketing the product, you could be bringing in anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 PER MONTH in revenue.
Now remember, I’m not speaking from theory here — I’m telling you something that I know is true because I’ve done it.
Now tell me, which of those scenarios is more appealing to you…
To do the work required to sell 100 copies of your digital course to make $15,000, or sell 100 copies of your book to make, well, a couple hundred bucks.
This is why I’m so passionate about teaching you what I know, because these strategies are nothing short of life-changing.
Being able to create a product that brings in nearly $200,000 a year in PASSIVE revenue from STUFF YOU ALREADY KNOW is something that will change your life — I mean literally CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
And as an author, with the level of talent, dedication and determination I KNOW you have, you owe this to yourself.
So that brings us back to that name again — The Author’s Edge.
I’ve seen so many God-awful writers, truly talentless people make a killing selling things like e-books online.
And it always bothered me that they were cleaning up while truly talented people like you were struggling.
Now if you’re not “struggling” now, that’s great. I don’t want to paint everyone with the “starving artist” brush here, because I know that’s simply not true.
Many of you may be doing extremely well.
But The Author’s Edge will make you better.
Because what we’re going to do here is take that edge you already have in talent, and we’re going to talk about how to use it to your best advantage.
We’re going to talk about how to take all that hard work you put into developing your craft, all that expertise, all that knowledge and all that talent that you have, and we’re going to turn you into a star.
