Okay, so that’s a REALLY long title, but I wanted everyone to be perfectly clear about what we’re talking about here.
What I want to talk to you about today is a little-known way for you as an author to piggyback on the success and popularity of some of the most famous authors in the world.
I say “little-known,” and that’s because most authors and most people in the publishing industry will have never heard about it.
But to full-time Internet marketers like me, especially those with the book marketing background that I have, it’s anything but underground.
Here’s the way it works…
Let’s say you’re a horror or suspense writer, and you know that people who are fans of Stephen King would absolutely love your books, too.
What if there was a way to take all the traffic that goes to a place like StephenKing.com and to put YOUR book in front of HIS fans?
Thanks to an advertising channel known as “pay per view” (or PPV) or “cost per view” (or CPV), you can.
Now, not many people know about PPV because it’s not as popular or straightforward as, say, pay per click advertising with Google or Bing.
But when used correctly, it can be an incredibly cost effective way for authors to get exposure on the websites of some of the top authors in the world.
Get New Fans For Less than 2 Cents a Pop!
Now here’s one of the other really cool aspects about using PPV versus PPC or other forms of online advertising.
It’s VERY cheap.
Most times, you can get exposure for less than 2 cents each time someone views your ad (it’s usually around 1 1/2 cents per view, or “per impression”).
In other words, when a Stephen King fan visits his website, a small pop-up will appear that can expose this fan to your book, too.
Wow.
That’s some powerful mojo, guys.
And PPV advertising is not limited to just the example above. You could, for example, have your ad pop up when someone visits the Amazon sales page for one of King’s books, or a page where he was interviewed, or a page describing a TV show where he was interviewed.
You could, theoretically, get your ad for your book to appear on hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of pages all across the Internet that mention Stephen King.
How’s that for legalized “stalking?” (I think the guy who wrote Misery would approve, don’t you?)
Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing unethical or “wrong” about using PPV, but when you understand how it works and the implications of it, and you use it properly, you can get some super-duper-cheap exposure for your book, and it can be laser-targeted, since you already know fans of a particular author would likely be fans of your books as well.
How to Get Started Using PPV Traffic to Sell More Books and Get More Fans
There are a number of PPV advertising companies out there, but one that I’d recommend you look at to get started is called Media Traffic. They’re at www.mediatraffic.com.
I suggest them for a couple of reasons, but the biggest one is price — you can open an account for $100, which will buy you thousands of impressions so you can test out how it works for you.
There are a few things you’ll need to set up and launch a PPV campaign, including an effective landing page and/or a banner ad, a list of keywords and/or URLs you want to target to trigger your ads to show, and a basic understanding of how to monetize the traffic so that you’ll AT LEAST break even while you’re building your fan base.
We cover all of the above in detail in the brand spanking new Author’s Edge private member’s area, and for a limited time you can get access to everything for FREE when you try out the classic version of the Author’s Edge Marketing System.

I love PPV because it’s one of those perfect blends of old-school book marketing that I learned during my days in the publishing industry, combined with the latest Internet Marketing techniques that I now use every day.
Check it out, gang. I think you’ll like what you find.

As a marketer and author this is both Exciting and Frightening!!
@ Nicola Don’t be afraid
PPV has been around for a long time, it’s just that not a lot of people use it outside of the hardcore Internet marketing world.
But the implications for authors could be enormous! Imagine being able to target the top authors in your niche and literally follow them around everywhere, scooping up their traffic and turning them into YOUR fans.
It’s very powerful.
As with pay per click, you can also target keywords with PPV, but I think for many authors, particularly novelists who can identify several top authors in their genre, the ability to target by URL is MUCH more powerful.
